The Board of Trustees manages the Academy on behalf of the Academy Trust and the key responsibilities are to:

• Ensure the quality of educational provision
• Challenge and monitor the performance of the school
• Manage the Academy Trust’s finances and property
• Exercise reasonable skill and care in carrying out their duties
• Ensure that the Academy Trust complies with charity and company law
• Operate the Academy in accordance with the Funding Agreement that has been signed with the Secretary of State

The Board consists of up to 14 Trustees appointed by Members, a minimum of two Parent Trustees and the Headteacher. 

When appointing Trustees to the Board, Members always consider the skills and experience of those already serving, and will seek new Trustees who can supplement and enhance this.

Parent Trustees are elected by all parents at the school. They are representative of the parent body but the views they express at meetings are their own – they need not canvas parental opinion on every issue, or report back to parents on decisions taken: that is the responsibility of the whole of the Trust Board.   

The Board of Trustees meets at least five times a year. At each meeting we receive a report from the Headteacher and minutes from the various committees. Other items are discussed or approved at specific times of the year, for example exam results, planning for school improvement and budget.

The Board of Trustees is supported by six committees, which meet at least once each term.

• The Curriculum & Performance Committee deals with standards, curriculum, pastoral care and student well-being, SEND and Pupil Premium
• The Finance and Resources Committee is responsible for maintaining an oversight of financial, premises, resources, and health and safety matters
• The Personnel Committee considers staffing, appraisals and training
• The Admissions Committee considers admissions criteria and related matters
• The Audit and Risk Committee reports to the Board on the adequacy of the Trust’s internal control framework, including financial and non-financial controls and management of risks
• The Chairs' Strategic Planning Committee considers longer-term strategic issues and the direction of the school

All Trustees are members of at least one of the committees. We also attend public events such as secondary transfer evening, school play performances and music concerts. Please come and talk with us while you are at these events.

In addition, each Trustee is linked to a department or specific area of school, such as Child Protection, SEND or the Sixth Form. In this role we regularly come into school to meet with staff and students.
