SCHOOL NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
|
|
Good afternoon,
This week saw us mark the D-Day anniversary with a special assembly created by Mr Hanse, outlining the significance of D-Day in determining the outcome of WW2. Please do take the opportunity to discuss this with your child over the coming days as we join the nation in commemorating this important date and continuing our remembrance of those who have served our country.
Also this week our students have led brilliant assemblies marking Pride Month. Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Year 9 assembly where the origins of the Pride movement were explained and details were shared on how the school community will be celebrating Pride Month.
I'd like to extend my thanks to all the Year 12 and Year 10 Sports Leaders who did a tremendous job in running this year's Primary Sports Festival - I know from speaking with Miss Jacobs that she was incredibly proud of all they have achieved and commented specifically on the their ability to lead, organise and deliver the entire event. Well done!
This week I met with the Year 12 students who have been working with Phase to deliver their Grow resilience programme in local primary schools - Sadie, Becky, Lola, Eleanor, Emily F, Enyonam, Zahra, Emily L, Shifa, Soraya, Venumi - It really is inspiring to meet with such enthusiastic and community-spirited students and they were worthy recipients of the Heateacher's Awards I presented to them.
Year 11 and Year 13 students continue to impress with their approach to the exams - they are well over the halfway mark now and counting down to their final papers. As ever, I wish them all the best of luck with the remaining exams.
James Crowther, Headteacher

Sports Leaders Festival
We held our annual Sports Festival for local primary schools, with lots of fun games organised and run really well by our Year 10 Sports Leaders. It was a super morning on the main pitch with everyone getting into the competitive spirit!
|
|
- And that's not all from our Year 10 Sports Leaders! They did us proud at St Ippolyts primary school's sports day, which took place at Ridlins athletics stadium just before half-term. Despite it literally raining non-stop all day our students showed high quality leadership skills and were full of enthusiasm for the children taking part. They all got a special thank you from the headteacher Mrs Peddie for their excellent sports leadership.

Year 9 Art
Students took on the task of drawing their first self-portraits. They learnt how to plot out the head's initial shape and position the facial features using a grid. They then developed understanding of how to use tone to give a sense of three dimensions, and added pencil mark-making and highlighting to show the textures of the hair. Well done all.

June Diversity Display
This month we will be celebrating Pride Month and the 80th anniversary of D-Day in tutor time. We will also be marking Turner Syndrome Awareness Day later in the month, and Grace in Year 7 will be talking about this in a whole-school assembly. Thank you to Julia in Year 12 for helping to put this display together, and to Mallory and Rose in Year 8 who designed wonderful posters to raise awareness of Pride Month. Wishing everyone a happy June!
