The Priory School Apprenticeship Fair

Thursday 20 March, 6.30 - 9.00

Open to students and parents/carers

Apprenticeships combine paid work with studying, and range from Level 2 up to Level 7. They can be started straight after GCSEs, A Levels or a degree. There are a large number of apprenticeships available, from local companies to multinationals such as the BBC and Apple.

Pre-event webinar by Amazing Apprenticeships
Wednesday 12 March, 6.30 – 7.15

To help understand how apprenticeships work and know what type of questions to ask employers, Amazing Apprenticeships have offered a pre-event webinar. This will be led by the founder of Amazing Apprenticeships Anna Morrison CBE. The webinar will cover the different types of apprenticeships, the benefits of this type of learning, and how and where to apply.

Medic Mentor's virtual work experiences provide students with valuable insights and opportunities that may be otherwise difficult to access. Developed in collaboration with Birmingham University Hospitals Trust, this virtual work experience has proven to be transformative for thousands of secondary school students over the past year. It goes beyond being just an alternative to in-person shadowing; it is a crucial step in preparing students for their upcoming physical placements.

Medic Mentor have designed a 6-month medical e-learning work experience programme, focusing on one specialism each month, allowing students to set their own pace of learning. From structured teaching to direct interaction with doctors and healthcare professionals, the programme ensures students not only observe procedures but also gain a broader understanding of roles within the medical field.

Covering everything from ethics to procedures and broader team roles, this virtual work experience provides an overview of students' desired career paths and the skills that medical professionals are looking for, thereby enhancing their UCAS applications.  

Online Student Conference: 17 to 20 March

Your students are invited to join us at this year’s Choosing Oxford online student conference. The live sessions will:
 

• give students up-to-date information about our courses, colleges and the Oxford undergraduate admissions process
• explain how we can support you and your students with their applications
• give an insight into what living in Oxford and studying here is like
• give students a chance to speak to both tutors and current student ambassadors.

The sessions are running in the evenings, across four days, from Monday 17 March to Thursday 20 March. Hear our academics talk about the courses they teach and hear from our current student ambassadors as they share their experiences of studying and living in Oxford.
  
Each session will last 60 minutes and will include a presentation and a live Q&A with a panel of University staff, academics or current students.

Y12 Subject Taster Webinars: Magdalene College
Magdalene College are hosting online interactive Subject Taster webinars throughout January-March. These sessions will be led by Magdalene College Fellows, covering a variety of subjects offered by the University of Cambridge, including Geography, Philosophy, Medicine, Maths, Law, Languages, Psychology, and Computer Science.
There will be two online sessions for every subject; the first in the style of a lecture, and the second will be more interactive, similar to a Cambridge supervision. We encourage students to attend both sessions, to experience degree-level teaching, and to ask questions or engage in academic discussion. This will also serve as useful interview prep for those thinking about applying to the University of Cambridge.

Y12 Humanities Writing Competition: Girton College 
This is an opportunity for students to research and write beyond the curriculum, using one or more of five selected objects from the Lawrence Room museum objects, as their focus. Essays or creative responses (such as dramatic monologues, short stories or poems) are equally welcome. It is open to UK students in Year 12 who have an interest in the Humanities. The prize is up to £500 cash and books to the value of £400 from Cambridge University Press, the latter to be shared between the winning entrant/s and their school/s.

Y12 Subject Taster Webinars: Gonville & Caius College
Gonville & Caius are running taster evenings for 27 of the subjects that you can study at Cambridge. During the taster evening, you will get the chance to meet Directors of Studies for that subject, hear from our students, and experience a taste of Cambridge-style teaching.
